Nelson N. Fuller letter, 23 April 1865.

Civil War letter from Fuller, an officer in Company D, 30th Wisconsin Infantry stationed in Louisville, Kentucky, to his cousin James. Fuller discusses the attitude surrounding Lincoln's assassination just nine days earlier: "I think the great majority of all classes . . . feel that we have lost a man that was best calculated to bring together the scattered fragments of our rebellion-riven country and arrange a permanent peace." Fuller also writes regarding the founding of a M.E. Church in town: "The prospect is good that a great many will come over from the Southern Branch." Fuller notes the relative inactivity of his regiment and he speculates that "we shall not be deemed worthy of much honor."
